The Top 5 Reasons Most People Fail at Achieving Their Goals .. and How to Fix Them

“Fail” is a 4-letter word – the ultimate “F” word, you might even say. In this article, I’ve identified the Top 5 reasons people fail at achieving their goals. You may find that one, two, or even all five of these relate to your life and experience with goal setting. If that’s the case, don’t despair. Following each reason are some questions you can use to turn them around. You’ll start to experience real progress – not just movement that seems to go nowhere. As you read these, be honest with yourself – but not harsh. Take the time to answer the questions and think about alternate ways of doing things so that 2003 will be a year of massive goal ACHIEVEMENT for you!

Reason #1: People don’t take action. OK, this sounds obvious. Surely we all know that we have to take action in order to get somewhere. Even so, you would not believe how many people I talk with who sit there and wonder why their life doesn’t go the way they want it. (I know this b/c I’ve been there.) The thing is that they often don’t know what action to take, OR, they aren’t being honest with themselves about whether they really are taking action.

Here are some questions to consider: If you had already achieved your goal, what actions would you have taken to get there? What do you feel inspired to do right now? What are 20 possible actions you could take? Which ones are the most inspiring? Will this action I’m considering benefit me and/or my business? How do I know? How can you make a game out of taking action? (My coach and I have created a game I use. I am alternately cursed and blessed by being an incredible idea generator. What I’ve realized is that I get so juiced by creating new ideas that I have to pay attention to actually taking action. My game is to see how short I can make the time span from the time I get an idea to the time I take an action – any action – toward its completion. Yes, it’s a game, but it works! – And if you remember the article from last month, one of my key philosophies is “use what works!”

Reason #2: People are afraid. They might be afraid of failure, or of success. And sometimes they are afraid of both. A bit of a catch-22, wouldn’t you say?

Usually when we are afraid to go for our goals, it is because of a belief we have about what it means to achieve it, or to go for it and not quite make it. Unfortunately those beliefs are usually based on stories from our past, or even on complete falsehoods.

So the solution is to get really honest about the truth of the situation. Ask yourself questions that give you a different perspective: What is scary about having this goal come true for me? What is scariest about going for it and not making it? What am I really afraid of? Where does it come from? Is it REALLY true? Really? What’s the real truth about this situation? Do I actually want this goal?

Reason #3: People have poor internal programming. Think of yourself like a computer – whatever you put in affects what you get out. As you set goals and think about achieving them and the actions required to achieve them, what thoughts are you “putting in”? What is the internal dialogue you have running? What do you imagine will happen?

All of these things – thoughts, words, and your imagination – affect your real results. I won’t go into tons of detail here, but here are some questions to stimulate some positive internal programming:

If this goal were already achieved, how would I feel? What would be different in my life?

Imagine yourself (or your business) with the goal already achieved. Imagine it in Technicolor ways. Describe your experience to someone else (or yourself) as if it were already true. How did it feel taking the steps to achieve it? What did you learn? What did you like best?

Reason #4: People’s environments don’t make success automatic. Most of us have been taught to use willpower to get ourselves to do what needs to be done. While that can work short term, it is also draining and doesn’t usually sustain the change or action. Instead, think about designing your environments to get you to do what you know/think you ought to be doing.

In your physical environment – What are the obstacles/distractions that make it hard for you to follow-through? How could you change or remove them?

In your support/administrative environment – What sort of prompts or triggers can you set up to remind you and nudge you to follow-through on things? (I actually have my assistant send me reminders and nudges to get me to do the things that I tend to put on the backburner. And since I’m paying her to do this, you bet your booty I’m more likely to follow-through.)

What about your human environment? Who do you surround yourself with? Are the people you hang out with naysayers who don’t achieve their own goals, or are they people who set goals, think about what they want out of life, and then take action toward them.

What other “environments” can you think of? How would you redesign them to support you better?

Reason #5: People give up too early. Yep, while most of us like to think of ourselves as persistent, the truth is most of us give up just before we’re about to have a breakthrough. We let discouragement and obstacles become barriers, rather than using them as launching pads for the next approach.

What if your last discouragement actually holds within it the key to getting what you want? How important is this goal to you? If it is a “must”, then you can’t give up. That doesn’t mean you beat your head against the wall doing the same thing over and over again, but it also means you find another approach.

How will this action benefit you and/or your business?

If this “problem” is actually the foundation of an even better solution or goal, what would that be?

What if all of this is perfect and teaching you exactly what you need to know? What would you do then?

What will the rest of 2003 hold for you? How will you take action, transform the fear, and program yourself and your environment so that you will exponentially increase your chances of achieving your goals?

How To Do Well In Something Even If You Don’t Seem To Have The Talent For It

One of the common grouses I hear, hindering people from going into a particular challenge is that they believe they don’t have the “X-factor” to excel in it. Usually, it’s after one or two failed attempts in that same domain. Or something so new that they didn’t know what to expect. They’ll say things like “Nah, I’ve tried before and I know I suck”, “I’m just not cut out for that” or “I can never be as good as him” and abandon the whole idea just to save themselves the embarassment. Even when it’s something that’ll definitely expand their lives if they’ll just give it a(nother) try.

I admit I’m not spared of this too. Besides judging myself previously for lacking the talent in sales, I used to think I was a lousy dancer… hehehe. I was a member of the high school choir and during one of our overseas concerts, I was handpicked to take part in an all girls performance item. We had to sing and dance a little at the same time. A few of us – myself included – were so “stiff” that we had to be given remedial lessons in our female instructor’s hotel room every other night before the concert! Yes, we were that bad!

Hardly anyone would comment I’m a bad dancer now whenever my friends and I go clubbing. In case you’re wondering, nope, I didn’t take any dancing lessons. I just changed my thinking. In fact, when I look at it, it’s probably the same process of thoughts that lead me to my sales success. Here’s how :

(1) Expect the Frustration

Trust me, when you’re being challenged with some role or work you’ve previously labeled yourself as having no talent for, the first thing to do is just to expect the frustration. It’ll inevitably bring back the nasty memories of how everyone jeered at you when you were on the stage not knowing what to say, for instance. Your ego is likely to convey that underlying message that you shouldn’t speak in public anymore just to avoid the pain of getting hurt or disappointed again.

Well, don’t beat yourself up over it. Be aware that this is your subsconscious’ way of protecting you. But despite the good intentions, choosing to run away from it is literally putting yourself on dystrophy mode. You’ll never be able to do well in public speaking not because it’s true you lacked the talent but rather because you’ve decided not to give yourself a second shot at it anymore!

(2) Make a Decision & Watch Your Focus Shift

In most of my cases, I realize my frustration and anxiety is at its worse when I’m split on a decision. Whether to take up the challenge or say “no”. The former requires some guts but whenever I do so, the negative energy caused by my frustration soon turned into proactive forces. I’ll start brainstorming ways to alleviate the situation. Such as putting in more effort to practice or research the skill I need to develop.

Strangely at the same time, I’ll find comfort within myself. For example, even though I was worried about affecting the necktie sales, I eventually told myself that my assistance was actually to help my brother-in-law resolve an urgent resource issue, which was far more pressing than a slight drop in Sales.

I find myself focusing on another aspect of the whole situation so much so that it takes the pressure off the results. Think of it this way. Assuming you’ve just taken an examination and the score for a pass is 50 marks. You got 45. If your focus is on passing, I’m sure you’ll feel terrible. But what if your plan is to do better than your previous grade, which was 20 marks? You’ll have achieved 125% improvement, way above what you’ve intended!

(3) Observe > Practice > Review > Practice

When the focus is shifted and the stress to perform is greatly reduced, you’ll gradually build up that self belief that it’s probably not going to be that tough after all. By following up this school of thought with the 4 action steps of observe, practice, review and practice, trust me, you’ll be able to hone the skill that you thought you didn’t have the talent for. Just like what I did to be better in dancing.

After my high school saga, I never really had a chance to dance again. Until my University hostel committee organized a party at a club where we were all invited to the dance floor after the dinner. I was initially reluctant to join them – mainly because I didn’t want to embarrass myself – but when everyone at our table popped down to the dance floor, a friend just dragged me by the arm. I didn’t have time to say “no”.

Under the music and shimmering lights, I suddenly realized that everyone was so busy having fun that no one would notice my obscure dance moves! I began to shift my focus. Instead of being conscious about my dance steps, I just concentrate on swaying my body with the music.
And as I did so, I started taking note of how others danced, played copycat a little, review the response from my friend on my moves – well, she didn’t say anything bad – and quickly continued with it. At the end of the day, I was having so much fun that for the first time ever, I felt that dancing wasn’t totally beyond me! As much as I thought it was.

(4) Have Fun In The Process!

Once everything becomes almost second nature to you through your observation, practice, review and continuous practice, what determines if you’ll ever do well in that domain really depends on how much fun you’re beginning to derive from it. Nowadays, I’m usually the one initiating for a chillout at the clubs, occasionally receiving a bonus compliment that I dance quite naturally. And yes, none believed that I used to be so bad in dancing that I had to have remedial lessons.

Do you now enjoy the attention of speaking on the stage? Are you gradually opening up to the idea of breaking ceilings of sales one after another? Will you like to go dancing to the tune of the music and sweating it out again? When you derive a lot of fun and satisfaction from that something you didn’t know you could do well in, it will eventually develop an impetus for you to know more, learn more and practice more. That, in turn avalanches your achievement as you become skilled in it.

Though I still face a lot of insecurities in reattempting stuff I used to do badly in – things that I totally felt I wasn’t born with the gift for – such little successes over the years have helped to mitigate that frustration and fear. I know there’s still a chance for me to do well in it.

I celebrated my 50th birthday earlier this month. As I have been slowly reflecting on how this milestone has impacted me, one thing that has come up is that I want to approach the second half of my life a bit differently. You see, I pretty much let the energy of life pull me along for my first 50 years. I’m not complaining; it seems to have unfolded pretty darn well. But now I’m starting to realize that what I make of my life is totally up to me, and with the clock ticking a little more loudly now, I am feeling a lot more motivated to step in and take control.

Case Study: Are Internet Directory Submissions Still a Good SEO Method?

Most webmasters know that high rankings on Google and other modern search engines can only be achieved if a website has both optimized web page content and good inbound links.
While it is relatively easy to optimize the content of a website, it is more difficult to get good inbound links. A relatively easy way to get inbound links is to submit websites to Internet directories.

But do these Internet directory links still have value when it comes to search engine rankings? Can you increase the position of your website in Google's search results by submitting your site to Internet directories?

A case study:

An internet marketer tested three pages that were orphaned within the normal navigation structure of the website. These three pages were created to provide valuable content to search engines.

The three pages were submitted to some high quality paid directories (Yahoo, BestOfTheWeb, Joe Ant) and free directories.

About 45 days after the paid directory links went live, the web pages had increased visibility on search engines. Visits and conversions also increased and the tracking of the marketer indicated that at least 50 percent of the results could be attributed to the directory links.

The final results that were attributed to the directory link building included:
a lift of traffic to levels that other highly visible site pages receive within 90 days
an increase in monthly conversions for the business line of 45 percent year-over-year
What does this mean for your website?

Getting links from Internet directories should be a fundamental part of any search engine optimization strategy. You should submit your website to all big Internet directories and to Internet directories that cover your niche.

The Effect of the Yahoo/Microsoft Deal on Your Website

You've probably heard about the Yahoo/Microsoft deal. This will have a major impact on the search engine landscape and there definitely will be effects on your website rankings and the number of visitors that your website will get.

The basic facts:
Yahoo is going to give up their own search technology and use Microsoft's search technology instead. Bing.com will power the organic and the paid search results on Yahoo (except for premium ads on Yahoo).

Self-serve advertising (i.e. the AdWords competitor) will be managed by Microsoft's AdCenter. Microsoft will get access to Yahoo's search technology and can use it to improve its own search technology.

What does this mean for your website?

You should optimize for Bing.com.Yahoo/Bing will have a search market share of at least 15% (that's the current market share of MSN and Yahoo combined - some statistics show a much higher market share).If you do not optimize some of your website pages for Bing, you'll lose a lot of visitors and sales. Recent research has shown that Bing's traffic is more likely to convert.

Yahoo's inbound link data will probably be lost.Yahoo is the search engine that currently returns the most inbound link data. When Yahoo drops its index, that data will probably be lost. That means that you will be able to manage your ads for both Yahoo and Bing in one user interface. It probably also means rising bid prices on Yahoo and Bing.

Yahoo might close some of their websites.Yahoo might put its Internet directory into question as well as their alternative search applications SearchMonkey and SearchBOSS. Applications such as Yahoo Maps might also be reconsidered because Bing offers similar services.

There will be two independent search result pages.Yahoo will have full control over the user interface of their search form. The ordering of the results, the layout and the whole search focus can be different from Bing. That means that you still might have to optimize your website for both search engines.

The deal still needs shareholder and legal approval. Yahoo and Microsoft hope that the changes will be in place by early 2010. If you want to participate from the change as soon as possible, you should optimize some of your web pages for Bing now.

Optimize different pages of your website for different search engines and different keywords. What works with one search engine might not work with another. Optimize each web page for a dedicated search engine/keyword combination to get better results.

3 Simple Steps to Re-Wire Negative Thinking

Over the years, I have noticed that some of the most common, most painful, and most challenging blocks stem from thinking patterns. Often, it's not our outside circumstances, our luck, our families or our businesses that keep us stuck. Instead, what tends to hold us back and hurt us the most comes from deep inside - from our ways, in fact our patterns, of negative thinking.

When a negative thinking pattern gets activated, outside circumstance and rationale fade away, and those judgment-based, guilt-laden, chaos-seeking inner voices take over to color reality.

Some of the most popular examples of negative thinking patterns include:

· You have way fewer clients scheduled for the week than you'd like, and you say to yourself: "I just don't have the ability to be successful"

· You're having trouble getting interviews for a new job, and think: "I'll be stuck in this job forever"

· You go on a less-than-perfect first date and then decide: "I'll never fall in love with the right person"

· Your project is moving very slowly, so you conclude: "It's impossible for me to get ahead"

These negative thoughts all have something important in common: They are created around a story that is an absolute truth about the future. Using words like "never" or "always" are good clues that you have become stuck in absolute negatives. For example: "This will never happen"; or "Things will always be this way".

If you are someone who experiences negative thinking, you know how damaging and painful thoughts like these can be. And, the most dangerous part is that they can project you on a cycle that leads you on a downward spiral to being stuck and in pain. I call this The Wheel of Negativity. Here's what it looks like:

You create a negative thought →

You cling so tightly to this thought that you passionately collect evidence from the outside world to uphold it at any cost →

You become so mired in the thought and the evidence you've collected that you become unable to identify all of the positive aspects of your situation →

You feel stuck so you act stuck; you don't take any action to change your situation or you take a fear-based action→

Being stuck leads you to create more negative thoughts

The more you allow your negative thinking patterns to become activated, the more they become habit. They become your comfort zone and your first response to a situation. Without managing and transforming them, your negative thoughts run the danger of becoming part and parcel of your daily life.

How often do you negative thoughts arise?
What is the effect that they have had on your life and your attitude, your ability to really enjoy yourself?

You CAN break the habit of your negative thinking patterns and turn them around. Here is a simple and tested 3-step process I developed for shifting from those negative thoughts to positive ones that encourage a joyful experience of life!:

1) Isolate and Track Your Negative Thoughts: So often, we move through our days without even being aware the damage that our negative thinking patterns are doing. You can make a lot of progress by simply training your mind acknowledge them. The more that you can see your negative thoughts, the more you will bring them out of your blind-spot where they can do the most damage. Becoming a detective around your negative thoughts will allow you to see them much more clearly, then giving you the freedom and choice to change them. A great tool is to keep a log of all the negative thoughts that come up for you in a 24-hour period, including:

1. the date and time
2. the negative thought you had (I'll never make enough money, or I'll never live in a place that I love or I'll be stuck in this job forever)
3. any details that seem important: if you had that thought while comparing yourself to a specific person, while visiting family, while working, when you are tired or hungry

2) Create an Action-Based Alternative Thought for Yourself: This is where the "re-wiring" comes in to play. Once you are aware of your negative thoughts and how they function, you then have the freedom to create new, positive propelling thoughts for yourself. For each of the negative thoughts on your log, write down a replacement goal along with a concrete baby action step that will help reach your goal. Here are some examples:

I'll never make enough money → I want to earn more money than I do right now; I will reach out to 5 new potential clients each week

I'll never live in a place that I love → I want to improve my living conditions; I will look into fixing up my apartment or what else is on the market right now

I'll be stuck in this job forever → I would like a job that fulfills me; I will revise my resume so that I can attract a position that really makes my heart sing

3) Have a Gratitude Attitude: This is the final step to re-wiring negativity, and it's a crucial one. Remember to acknowledge all of the things that are going right! You'll be amazed at what a shift in your thinking that can make!

Following these three easy steps will move you well on your way to freeing yourself from the negative thinking patterns that keep you stuck, and propel you onto the road of realizing and achieving your goals!

Sit back and let’s take a walk back in history. Let’s examine some of our history’s greatest scientists, inventors and manufacturers. What type of men were they? Were they the type of people to just dabble in their work? Did they sit around and plan to plan their plan’s of attack? No, for if they did, Henry Ford would have never build a car and manufactured it. Thomas Edison would have never invented the filament for the light bulb or the Edi phone. Benjamin Franklin would have never discovered electricity and the list goes on. Now I am sure someone would have invented and discovered these things some where down the road. However these men are know through out the United States and even the world. They were some of the wealthiest people in that day and age.

These men were not lazy. They were driven scientists, inventors and pioneers of there time. However, not every researcher is an expert inventor, or cutting edge pioneer. The Academic Community is filled with researchers that conduct research which never get farther than their blueprints and the lab doors. That’s not the case with every researcher. A small amount does what to free the world with cures and inventions. However the majority of researchers do get caught up in the analysis by paralysis. They become victims to the mundane day after day of busy work. Unfortunately, they can never break free from it and never advance in their careers.

Business people are not immune to this factor either. They on the other hand will start doing research for something that they are interested in getting involved in. This is where analysis by paralysis will set in. They will get so consumed by their research of understanding how they can work it. They will start reading more and more, clicking here on a website and there on another website. Then before they know it they are way off topic and have information overload. They feel the business of researching is helping them move forward in achieving their goals, but it’s not. Three months go by and the research becomes the end, instead of a means to an end.

This repeatedly happens to the new entrepreneurs who want to start a work from home business. Online internet business opportunities are becoming more and more popular these days. However most fall prey to the analysis by paralysis, few ever get started and take the necessary actions for success. The research piles up, but nothing ever changes. And nothing ever improves. The people that do take action become the veteran entrepreneurs. The ones making the big buck, living their lives the way they want. Driving nice cars and living in beautiful home. Doing want they feel like doing stress free for the rest of their lives.

If you're thinking about becoming an internet entrepreneur, yes of course you will want to do your due-diligents. Make sure you find a system that works and is right for you. But don't stop there. You have to take decisive action as well. Remember, do one positive action a day for your business and in ninety days. You will definitely have your business on the right track. Has Google A New - 50 Penalty?

Webmasters in an online webmaster forum observed an anomaly in Google's results that might indicate a new Google penalty. Which websites have been penalized and could this affect your own website?

What has happened?

Many webmasters reported that their websites lost all of their top positions on Google and dropped to position 50 and below.

The problem is that the usual metrics shows that the websites are okay. For example, one of the websites was older than two years, the inbound links did not change and the Google PageRank in Google's toolbar also did not change. Another penalized website was older than 10 years.

Why have these websites been penalized?

There were several theories in the forum thread:

1. Spam on another websites

One theory was that the websites could have been penalized because the webmaster used spammy methods on another of his domains.

Even if your websites are not linked, Google can still know that you are the owner of both websites. They have several ways to find this out, including WHOIS information and Google accounts.

2. Links to spammy websites

Your website might link to spammy websites even if you don't want to do that. Website widgets, counters and other plugins sometimes put invisible links to other sites on your website.

The server might have also been hacked and there could be a link that you don't want on your website. (Editor's note: You can find a link checker in IBP: Tools > Broken link checker).

3. Paid links from .edu domains

A theory that looks very likely was the use of paid links from .edu domains. It seems that there are many hacked .edu servers that host websites on which these links can appear.

Paid links from other sites might also cause problems. If paid links from .edu pages really can cause a ranking drop then this would enable your competitors to harm your website by purchasing these links for your website.

What should you do now?

We think that it's likely that Google is working on its paid link filters and that paid links from .edu domains and other sites are the reason for the problems.

Stay away from paid links. Google doesn't like them and chances are that your website will get problems if you use them. Better focus on high quality organic links.

How To Create Trust For High Google Rankings

Trust is a major factor in Google's ranking algorithm. Some websites can get high rankings on Google for nearly any content they publish while other websites cannot get high rankings at all although they have optimized web page content.

A high trust level is crucial if you want to get high Google rankings

The reason why some websites do better than others is trust. Some websites have managed to reach a very high trust level with Google. That helps them to get higher rankings on search engines than you do.

Google doesn't want to list spam sites in the search results. For that reason, it is important to show Google that your website is for real, that you're not a spammer and that you plan to stay in business for a long time.
Here are some things you can do to show Google's algorithm that it can trust your website.

1. Things you should consider about your domain name

The age of a domain is important to Google. When you start a new online business, consider buying an old domain name if a suitable name is available.

If you start with a new domain, buy it with a renewal period of two years and more. You show Google that your domain is not a throwaway domain by doing so.

Check your WHOIS records and make sure that the contact information is correct. Do not use exotic top level domains. If you are in the USA, use .com, .net or .org. If you're in another country, use the official top level domain of your country.

Don't overuse hyphens in your URL. For example, www.keyword-keyword1-keyword2-keyword3-keyword4-keyword5.com might look spammy.

2. Things you should consider about your website content

Make your contact information easy to find on your website. List a full address and not only your email address on your website. The more information about your company can be found on your website, the more likely it is that it will be considered a real business.

Your website should have a privacy policy and terms and conditions (if applicable). Both should be linked from your sitemap.

Don't use doorway pages. They annoy search engine spiders and website visitors. Doorway pages are a clear indicator of a low quality website.

If possible, keep the HTML code of your web pages below 100 KB so that search engine spiders can crawl it easily. Regularly update your web pages to show Google that your website is alive.

3. Things you should consider about your links

Do not participate in automated linking schemes. If your website gets 2000 inbound links on a single day then Google might think that you try to game the algorithm with a link system.

The links to your website should contain your keywords but they should not all contain exactly the same link text. If all links to your website used exactly the same link text then this would be a red flag for Google.

Do not use paid links. Google does not like paid links and they might penalize your website if use them.

If Google trusts your website then it will be much easier to get high rankings. Of course, your website still needs optimized web page content and good inbound links. IBP can help you to get both.

Microsoft's new search engine Bing

Microsoft's Bing search engine has just become publicly available, allowing you to decide whether Microsoft's latest effort has the goods to take on Google. Bing is available at www.bing.com and replaces Live Search.

Microsoft is expected to spend $80 million to $100 million on Bing marketing which would be a nice hedge against Yahoo! because Bing will most likely take market share from Yahoo!.

Whether Bing ultimately succeeds or not, it will push Google to keep innovating search, and the new pay per click competition will ensure that Google doesn't get too greedy.

How is Bing different from Google?

Bing is not dramatically different from Google, but some people have found its results stronger. There are some visible changes:

Bing shows a preview of the web pages in the search results when you hover your mouse pointer at the right side of the search results.
Bing displays fewer results if it is certain that it has understood your intent. The search for "Facebook", for example, brings up just one result linking to the site itself.
Some search results are divided into categories. For example, if you search for the popular musician "Justin Timberlake", you'll get results in the categories news, songs, movies, biography, wallpaper and downloads. In addition, the search results show images, videos and the popularity of the musician.
Wikipedia searches can be displayed inline in the search results without leaving the Bing site by clicking the "Enhanced view" link.
Bing features a different background image every day. The image contains special hidden hotspots that lead you to more information (soon advertising?) about the image.
Despite the background image, Bing's homepage loads very quickly in your web browser because the search box and logo load first. You can turn off the background image.
Bing's video search lets you watch videos without leaving the search engine.
Bing offers specific health, shopping and travel search engines, as well as instant answers to travel searches. For instance, the search "Vegas hotels" displays a selection of hotels in Las Vegas, including hotel stars and prices.
Bing's search history lets you return to your most recent searches of the last two days. This feature can be turned off to protect your privacy.
Some of Google's features are missing, for example, Bing doesn't seem to recognize misspellings and returns no results in these cases.

Network Marketing Business Model Stands the Test of Time and is Now More Beneficial Than Ever

Network Marketing is a business model that incorporates the concept of buying high quality products from people that you know, like, and trust. Products are shipped from the manufacturer to the customer, and the only middle part of that is a distributor representing the network marketing company. There are no wholesalers, or advertising agencies, or any other entity in between. The concept of network marketing is for the distributor to connect with the customer in order to personally explain the value of the brand, the difference in quality of the products, and why buying from this brand will produce better results for the customer.

Highly regarded businessmen Donald Trump and Robert Kiyosaki believe in network marketing, especially for home-based and small business owners, and teamed up to write a book about it, “Why We Want You To Be Rich.” That being said, there are companies that have tarnished the reputation of network marketing by operating in underhanded or devious ways. Most of these companies do not last long, and many times there was not a reputable product to sustain the company. Unless there is a solid foundation of products that people want to buy, and even refer to others because of the benefits they receive, a network marketing company can not survive, much less flourish.

Network marketing was introduced to the world a very long time ago. I know that it is at least 53 years ago when my primary business launched under this business structure. People who are part of our brand believe that they pioneered the business model and are proud of it. Network marketers are business owners. It is their job to find customers and introduce them to products that are superior to those found in stores. If any of those customers want to have a home-based business of their own, it is the network marketer’s job to help them get started and provide support and leadership. Even though the network marketer takes on many hats in their business, they are not alone. Most parent companies provide training, support materials, all kinds of tools and services including home office staff. All other redirects (except for a meta refresh redirect in some cases) don't pass the links from the old page to the new page and they might even be interpreted as a spamming attempt.
Search engines don't like duplicate content

Google wants to list only one copy of a piece of content in the search results. If your web page contains the same content as another page on the web then Google will pick one version of the content for their search results.

Google considers exact copies and near copies as duplicate content. Website navigation and boilerplate are usually ignored. Google compares your page's unique content with other pages and if it has a certain similarity to another page than it is considered a duplicate.
You can create duplicate content by mistake

Technically, the URLs http://example.com, http://www.example.com and http://www.example.com/index.php can contain different content. That is why search engines treat them as separate pages.

Only link to one version of these URLs. Otherwise, the other versions might be duplicates of the other.

Jack Canfield: Merging Business and Spiritual Principles for Success

Last weekend I went out in search of a book that could set me into the new year with an inspired focus on the unlimited possibilities that I know are true for all of our lives. I came home with Jack Canfield’s The Success Principles: How to Get from Where You Are to Where You Want to Be. The title perfectly expressed what I was looking for.

Fifty seven pages into the read, the book has surpassed what I set out to receive. It’s not that the principles that Jack Canfield writes about are new, it’s that his ideas are a rare mix of spirituality and business. They’re grounded in practicality and yet they speak to the soul. He reminds me that it’s possible to achieve your dreams, but first you need to get in touch with those dreams, break them down into goals, and above anything else, believe in your ability to bring your dreams to life.

I sat down to do a couple of different exercises, and it blew me away to discover just how vague I am about what I really want from my life. How can I focus on building the life of my dreams if I haven’t focused on what my dreams clearly look like?

Jack Canfield has left me with a number of gems so far:

Believing in yourself is essential to success. If you can’t believe in your ability to succeed with something, ask yourself why not? Identify what you need to do to feel confident about your ability to succeed and do it.

Get clear on your vision and create very specific goals. The more definition you place on what you want to achieve, the better equipped your mind is to support the building.
Make a habit of focusing on what you want to create through visualization and mental review of your goals. Keep your visions and the energy that supports them engaged and fully alive. Review your goals several times a day.

Carry a written description of your most important goal with you. Make it a part of your life by reviewing it constantly.

If you haven’t already, take the time to create a vision of your ideal life, and break that vision into specific goals. You can never be too clear on what you want to create.

What is Multi-Level Marketing?

I'm sure that everyone reading this article has heard of McDonalds. It is a hamburger franchise that was started by Ray Kroc in the 1950's. This "franchise" was the precursor to "multi-level marketing.

Ray Kroc opened numerous restaurants throughout the world called "franchising". A franchise was someone that purchased a restaurant from him, and was then taught to "duplicate" the efforts of Ray Kroc and what his restaurants represented.

Ray paid these people handsomely for running the businesses for him, but in fact, these people actually "owned" the businesses he gave them to run. Ray Kroc simply took a small percentage of the income produced by these "franchises" and gave the rest of the income to the "owners". He even went out of his way to train them on how to run a business. When that business was trained, he opened another restaurant and did the same with them.

He then continued to duplicate his efforts around the world, which popularly became known as "franchising". After opening numerous restaurants, small amounts of income from all of these restaurants produced a huge income for Ray Kroc.

How does Internet marketing or "multi-level" marketing relate to this? Well. In the case of Ray Kroc, only he was allowed to expand his network. In multi-level marketing, individual business owners can expand their own network. This is exactly what happens in today's "Internet Marketing" boom!

In order to make more income; you must be able to expand your business opportunity and /or products to many locations around the world. Franchising and Internet Marketing are your two best bets. Both work well, and both are highly recommended. If you have lots of capital, go with franchising, but if not, look seriously into Network Marketing. They are your two best bets for success.

What To Do When Your Google Rankings Have Dropped

Has your website lost its rankings in Google? Did your rankings drop or did your website vanish completely from Google? In that case, your website might have received a Google penalty and you might have to file a reinclusion request.

Three reasons why your Google rankings might have dropped

There are several reasons that can cause a ranking drop:

You changed your web pages. After a web page change, Google temporarily downranks web pages. This process has been described in a Google patent. In that case, you don't have to worry about the ranking drop and you'll get your old (or better) rankings back after some time.
Other web pages are better than yours. No web page can keep its rankings forever. Your competitors might have built better web pages with better content and better inbound links. In that case, optimize your web page content for your keywords and try to get better inbound links.
Google thinks that you use spam elements on your web pages and applied a penalty to your website. In that case, you have to file a reinclusion request.

How to find out if your website has been penalized

Search for your domain name on Google. If your website does not come as the first result, it's likely that it has been penalized.

If Google cannot find any page of your website if you search for "site:yourdomain.com" (replace yourdomain.com with your own domain name) then it's nearly sure that your website has been penalized.

Action plan: what you can do to get your rankings back

Before you ask Google to reconsider your website, you should make sure that everything is okay with your site:

Fix all on-site issues that might have caused the problem.

If you use hidden text or nearly hidden text on your website then remove it. Reconsider any use of display:none and visibility:hidden that you use in the CSS code of your website.

If you use keyword lists or any other form of keyword stuffing on your web pages, then remove these elements. Check your web page titles, the meta tags and even HTML comments.

Remove any unnecessary redirects, unrelated links and all duplicate pages. If you use cloaking or bot blocking scripts on your server, disable these scripts. Make sure that your HTML code is clean and that your web pages look nice. Don't use any automatically created doorway pages.
Fix all off-site issues.

Off-site issues are often the reason for ranking penalties. If you participated in automated link exchange systems of if you paid a cheap overseas link building service to get links to your website then it's likely that these links have been flagged as spam links by Google.

Google does not like automated link systems at all. Remove all automated link systems from your website and try to make sure that these linking systems do not link anymore to your site.

If you purchased links to improve your rankings, try to get rid of these links. Google has officially stated that they consider paid links spam. Do not buy links.

How to file a reinclusion request

When you have removed all on-site and off-site elements that could have been flagged by Google, you can file a reinclusion request.

Keep your reinclusion request short and to the point. Be friendly and explain what exactly you have done to clean up your website.

Ranking drops can cost your business a lot of money. For that reason, you shouldn't use any search engine optimization services that promise quick-fix solutions. If something looks too good, too inexpensive or too easy to be true then it probably isn't true.

If you use ethical search engine optimization methods to optimize your web pages then you can be sure that your website gets high rankings without offending Google. It can take longer to get high rankings with ethical methods but you will also keep your high rankings much longer.

Chad has this correct! Here are three good excuses for not succeeding in an MLM home business.

#3 - You're Afraid of Network-Marketing or MLM's

I can hear you shouting it already...It's a Pyramid Scheme! You'll get sucked in! This is a LIE! Ever heard of "One Bad Apple Spoils The Bunch" or "Misery Loves Company"? A friend of mine was telling me about his dad's business. It's a decal/sign company that makes custom graphics for Dirt-Bikes, ATVs, etc... He told me that his dad worked all the time and that he'd never start his own business because it was too much work. Obviously something is wrong here, he doesn't know how to leverage the power of others. When you have a business that can be easily duplicated you can teach others how to do the same thing you are doing, therby leveraging their efforts to make millions. You don't have to work as hard and you make more money.

It doesn't happen over night so most people give up before they've laid the proper foundation. Sadly, they sink back into corporate slavery periodically emerging to have a nice dinner at their favourite restaurant for some special occasion. BUSINESS IS EASY, They just didn't find the right one! My business allows me to work as much or as little as I want. I usually sleep in until 11, get up and make a nice breakfast, then hit the computer. I spend 2 or 3 hours e-mailing and talking to people on the phone about their current work/financial situation and helping them start their own business so they can KISS the 9-5 GOODBYE! I leverage their efforts by teaching them what I know, they do the same with others, the system works.

AND THE #1 REASON YOU'RE STILL NOT RICH IS.... You're Still An Employee! When you work for someone else you're making them rich, not you. You're trading your time for dollars and this basically amounts to living paycheck to paycheck, attempting to save what you can so you can have some sort of retirement someday when you're too old to do the things you wanted to do but didn't have the money. Freedom 55 be damned! I'm going to enjoy my life when I'm in my prime! STOP making someone else rich and START living YOUR DREAM.

You Can't Get There From Here

A man stops to ask directions, only to be told, "You can't get there from here. If you were in Freeport, you could get there, but you can't get there from here."

So he asks how to get to Freeport. "See. That’s the hard part. You can't get to Freeport." We laugh, but too many of us are behaving as if this were serious information about the journey called life. If, in fact, you can call stuck-in-a-rut a journey at all.

Too many of us invest in the “can’t get there from here” scenario and give up before we take the first step. The Chinese saying, “The longest journey starts with a single step,” doesn’t apply because we won’t take that first step.

And what is this misinformation that causes us to give up without trying?

"Well, you came from a dysfunctional family. You can't expect to get to success from a start like that."

"You blew it when you didn't go to college. You’d be better off if you learn to be content where you are."

Or we're too young. Or too old. The wrong color. The wrong sex. Our history has blemishes. We're too poor. Come from the wrong place. The list is endless.

The fact is, people are willing to stand in line for a chance to tell us why we can't get from here to there, there being where our dreams are.

And they're wrong. What we’ve come through provides the gas in the engine for where we want to go. We’ve learned a lot from our so-called “problems,” and it’s stuff that can’t be learned any other way. We just need to let it motivate us and not let it drag us down.

But we won’t even try if we keep listening to the naysayers. Who are these dream killers? They’re people coasting through life without dreams, mainly because they don’t want to do the work that dreams entail. The way they see it is if you don’t try, you can’t fail. You also can’t succeed, but apparently that’s less painful to them than risking failure. And don’t bother trying to explain to them that failure is a building block to success if you keep on keeping on.

If the quit-now gang consists of casual acquaintances, we can just tune them out. It’s harder if they’re friends. They’re not going to change just because we have a dream. And they don’t want us to change because our success will reflect poorly on them.

If they can’t talk us out of it, and we persist in following our dream, they’ll dump us like a bag of wet garbage. And that’s just fine. Anybody who wants to hold us back isn’t really a friend. We’ll need to find new friends who prefer goal-setting to coasting, Full of dreams themselves, they’ll understand. And cheer us on.

Dealing with dream killers is hardest if it’s our family who insists we shouldn’t try to be more than they say we are. We can try to show them how they would benefit from our success. We can try to press on toward our goals in spite of all their talk of defeat.

But if they’re pulling us down faster than we can climb up, we may need to love them from a distance. Or we can give up our dream, stay down, and spend our days mourning our loss of what might have been–dead people walking.

The important thing to remember is we can get to some place good from wherever we are–if we’re willing to start the race. Regardless of where we’ve been, everybody has to start somewhere, and where we are now is the only place we have for starting.

Where you are now is your place of new beginnings.

Explode Your Network Marketing Business By Being Master Of Your Own Time

Owning your own home-based business does not seem like it would require a great deal of thinking when it comes to time management. Just the time you save by not having to commute to work and back seems like it alone would give you all the elbow room you need to coast through your day at a reasonable pace. The problem with working at home, however, is that distractions and obstacles seem to take precedence over the time we should be working. No one likes to have a problem hanging over their head, or miss their favorite tv show when the tv is just a click away. We like to think that we can get our work done more efficiently if all our problems were taken care of first. Working from home gives you the option to do that. But we forget that no mater how much you solve a problem, the next one is always on it's way.
So what happens at the end of the day when yo have finished all your chores and watched the shows you want to watch, but you have not made any money? You start looking for excuses and wind up blaming the company for your lack of success. Had you had the conviction to set a schedule and stick to it, you would not be a statistic in the high drop-out rate that gives network marketing a bad name.

We must all suffer from one of two pains: Discipline or regret. One of your jobs as a network marketer, who is the CEO of your own business, is to decide which is more painful. To me, discipline weighs ounces and regret weighs tons. I figured this out the hard way by making excuses for ten years instead of being accountable for my own actions. It was only when I developed a schedule and stuck to it that I began to see my business take off.All that is required for you to start your own daily schedule is the desire to make it a success. Making it a success requires you to focus your time on the things that are important before the things that seem urgent.

Doing your laundry is not important. Calling your prospects and inviting them to your briefings or trainings is.If you as a home-based business owner do not make sure you control your days wisely, your days will take control of you. Time is expensive and irreplaceable. your actions need to align with your overall goals. You can not expect to make a profit every single day if you are not sticking to a schedule that weighs heavy on the activities that will bring you income.

One of the best ways to set up a schedule is to block the money-making time as early as possible. This is the most important activity because without it you would have to go back to punching a time clock for someone else. The earlier you get it finished, the easier it is to get it out of the way. It is like when you were a kid and you were told you would not get any desert unless you finished all of your vegetables first. Well, the work is like the vegetables. Get it finished and over with first so you can earn your right to get the reward. What happens to a kid who goes right to the desert and does not eat his vegetables? He gets fat, lazy and sick, and life becomes difficult.

One of the misconceptions about working from home is that the more your work, the more money you will make. This is not true. What if you worked all day using outdated techniques that never make you any money? Those who know proven marketing understand that it is not how many people you talk to, it is who you talk to and how well you can relate to fulfilling their needs, wants and desires.Do not fill your schedule with nothing but work. Instead, focus on being educated on the proper ways to market so you can find a balance between work and leisure that allows you to be successful without spending every waking moment working. You ultimately want to learn how you can talk to only your target audience so when you want to make money, you turn your system on and make it.

Whatever you decide your activities should be, always remember to stick to your schedule and never stray from it. It is the road map you designed for yourself to travel on in order to reach your dreams and goals. If you do not follow your own life's plan, chances are you will fall into someone else's plan. And guess what they have planned for you? Not much.

6 Things You Must Know Before You Choose An Affiliate Program

So you want to choose an affiliate program or are you already involved in one?

These are six tips you must understand deeply. But first, understand that affiliate programs work just like network marketing. I said it works like it because it involves down-lines.

Now to get started. Once you understand these tips and use them wisely, you would make a real success out of the affiliate program you choose.

1. Choose the Right Affiliate Program.

Before you pick an Affiliate program, make double sure it is the right one. Check the company's profile. You cannot be in a moving vehicle and remain stagnant. If your affiliate program is one that makes steady progress, you also make progress. If it is stagnant, you inevitably will be stagnant. Check for the company's age. Companies in their first two years pay high, but they face the risk of quitting all too soon. They are but infants. Companies in their first seven years are more likely to be stable. Older companies are reliable. Very reliable. They have a track record which you can easily check out and have good organization built from years of existence.

2. What are the Companies' Products?

Please be very careful. Only a thin line separates Multi-level Marketing (MLM) or affiliate programs from illegality. You are however safe if the company has a product it sells. Never join a pyramid scheme. I am not an expert at that but I suppose pyramid schemes are scams. If the company does not offer a product or service, you might as well forget it.

3. Check the Compensation Plan.

Your primary reason for joining an affiliate program is to make money! Should I say that again? To make money! So please, check the compensation plan. Make sure it suits you. When dose the company pay? At what rate? How does the company pay? If it doesn't go down well with you, just forget it and find yourself another affiliate program with which you feel comfortable.

Note however that even if the commission schedule is small but sure, the work you do can help you blow it all up. Think of $1 in 1000 places ($1000). It can be achieved weekly. You can realize that with almost all affiliate programs.

The bottom line, choose a program that suits you.

4. Join Free Programs But....
A lot of affiliate programs allow you to join for free. I suggest you join the free ones. My reason is; you can easily leave without much loss. I feel sorry for people who have tried several programs and paid heavily just to realize it is not the right one. But if you think you can afford it, then the choice is yours.

Once you've made a choice, remember these last two tips!

5. Build Your Team of Affiliates.

This can be the most excruciating part of it all, but once you have a team of down-lines who are active, it is well worth it.

Always remember, "for every twelve, there is always a Judas." There will always be bad apples in a barrel. Find the good ones, train them, help them and you have simply helped yourself.

How do you know the good ones? Simple; watch out for those that ask questions, contact you and fulfill all requirements in short periods of time. Go for them and you are building a money spinning business.

6. Put Yourself in the Shoes of Those you Want to Recruit.

Make things easy for them. Put together all the information and deliver it to them. I know it took you sometime getting the information. Help them get it in a shorter time. Probably in few hours. Contact them always. Answer their questions. Give them all the help you can. Show them what to do and help them do it right.

Remember, you help them; you simply help yourself. Put yourself in their shoes and do exactly what you would have loved if you were in their shoes.

I just recently decided to give EyeEarn a shot.

What exactly is EyeEarn?

Well EyeEarn could quite possibly be the biggest thing that I have ever signed up for, or it could be just another addition to my list of dumpy programs I have tried. However, I think that EyeEarn is more of the first and isn’t just another dumpy program.

EyeEarn is a program that will pay you to put an EyeEarn sticker somewhere on your car window. It costs $20 for the sticker, shirt, cards and other stuff they have in the EyeEarn package. After you pay the $20 and put the sticker on your car, you will begin to receive a monthly commission from the EyeEarn network.

How do you earn with EyeEarn?

You can earn several ways from this. One way is to just pay the $20 and then put the sticker on your car, and get a monthly commission from the EyeEarn network.

EyeEarn was created by SFI, which is a company that pays it’s affiliates a commission every time they sell a product of theirs. Once you sign up for EyeEarn, you automatically become an SFI affiliate, regardless whether or not you paid $20 for the EyeEarn package. By selling and promoting SFI products, you can make more money.

Build up your downline, and earn more money!

Another way you can earn is by recruiting a downline. Every time someone signs up through your referral link, they are added to your downline. Every time someone in your downline has a person sign up under them, that person is also added to your downline. The downline is 7 levels deep. You will earn every time someone in your downline makes a sale, or makes a purchase of an SFI product.

When you pay the $20 for the sticker, you automatically get placed in the EyeEarn co-op. The EyeEarn co-op will automatically disperse people who signed up for EyeEarn into your downline. This means that periodically you will have people placed into your downline, without you having to do anything!

What do I think about EyeEarn?

I think it has good potential. I think that while I doubt I will earn much this next month, I do expect it to grow over time. EyeEarn is open worldwide, so the market for it is enormous! At first glance, it would seem that positive thinking and Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) have nothing to do with one another. Your thoughts can't hold any power over you if you don't judge them. If you notice yourself having a negative thought, detach from it, witness it, and don't follow it.

6. Squash the "ANTs"

In his book "Change Your Brain, Change Your Life," Dr. Daniel Amen talks about "ANTs" - Automatic Negative Thoughts. These are the bad thoughts that are usually reactionary, like "Those people are laughing, they must be talking about me," or "The boss wants to see me? It must be bad!" When you notice these thoughts, realize that they are nothing more than ANTs and squash them!

7. Practice Lovin', Touchin' & Squeezin' (Your Friends and Family)

You don't have to be an expert to know the benefits of a good hug. Positive physical contact with friends, loved ones, and even pets, is an instant pick-me-up. One research study on this subject had a waitress touch some of her customers on the arm as she handed them their checks. She received higher tips from these customers than from the ones she didn't touch!

8. Increase Your Social Activity

By increasing social activity, you decrease loneliness. Surround yourself with healthy, happy people, and their positive energy will affect you in a positive way!

9. Volunteer for an Organization, or Help another Person

Everyone feels good after helping. You can volunteer your time, your money, or your resources. The more positive energy you put out into the world, the more you will receive in return.

10. Use Pattern Interrupts to Combat Rumination

If you find yourself ruminating, a great way to stop it is to interrupt the pattern and force yourself to do something completely different. Rumination is like hyper-focus on something negative. It's never productive, because it's not rational or solution-oriented, it's just excessive worry. Try changing your physical environment - go for a walk or sit outside. You could also call a friend, pick up a book, or turn on some music.

When it comes to the corporate world, protocol is pretty much the religion. To know the things needed to do are the basics of productivity, but interaction and having a steady mind makes up the entire thing to true productivity. There are those who seem to work well even under pressure, but they're uncommon ones and we are human and imperfect. To get these little things like stress under our skins won't solve our problems. Sometimes it takes a bit of courage to admit that we're turning to be workaholics than tell ourselves that we're not doing our best.

I receive many emails from people that basically ask the same question: How can I keep myself motivated long term? This seems to be quite a common dilemma for many people so I want to address it because it can be done! Here are my tips for staying motivated:

Get motivated every day.Zig Ziglar was once confronted about being a “motivational speaker.” The guy said to him, “You guys come and get people hyped up and then you leave and the motivation goes away. It doesn’t last, and then you have to get motivated again.” Zig reminded the gentleman that baths are the same way but we think it is a good idea to take a bath every day!

It is true that motivation doesn’t last. We have to renew it each and every day. That is okay. It doesn’t make motivation a bad thing. We simply have to realize that if we want to stay motivated over the long term, it is something we will have to apply to ourselves each and every day.

Have a vision for your life.The root word of motivation is “motive.” The definition of motive is, “A reason to act.” This is the cognitive or rational side of motivation. It is your vision. You have to have a vision that is big enough to motivate you. If you are making $50,000 a year, it isn’t going to motivate you to set your goal at $52,000 a year. You just won’t get motivated for that because the reward isn’t enough. Maybe $70,000 a year would work for you. Set out a vision and a strategy for getting there. Have a plan and work the plan.

Fuel your passion.Much of motivation is emotional. I don’t know quite how it works but I do know THAT it works. Emotion is a powerful force in getting us going. Passion is an emotion, so fuel your passion. “Well, I like to work on logic,” you may say. Great, now work on your passion. Set yourself on a course to have a consuming desire for your goal, whatever it is. Do whatever you can to feel the emotion and use it to your advantage!

Work hard enough to get results.You can build on your motivation by getting results. The harder you work, the more results you will get and the more results you get, the more you will be motivated to get more. These things all build on one another. If you want to lose weight, then lose the first few pounds. When the belt moves to the next notch you will get fired up to get it to the notch beyond that!

Put good materials into your mind.I can’t say this enough – listen to tapes. I still listen to tapes regularly. I buy tape clubs from other speakers and I learn and grow. Their successes motivate me to get my own successes! Read good books. Read books that teach you new ideas and skills. Read books that tell the stories of successful people. Buy them, read them, and get motivated! Buy great music and listen to it. I just did a spinning class at the club today. Whenever a good song came on I was actually able to get motivated to ride faster! It gets you going and motivates you!

Ride the momentum when it comes.Sometimes you will just be clicking and sometimes you won’t. That is okay. It is the cycle of life. When you aren’t clicking, plug away. When you are clicking, pour it on because momentum will help you get larger gains in a shorter period of time with less energy. That is the Momentum Equation! When you are feeling good about how your work is going, ride the momentum and get as much out of it as you can! These are the top six ways to stay motivated: Get motivated every day.

Have a vision for your life.

Fuel your passion.

Work hard enough to get results.

Put good materials into your mind.

Ride the momentum when it comes.

These are simple principles, that when you put them to work regularly, will change your life by keeping you motivated all the time! Get going!

A lot has been written on the subject of network marketing and the products commonly sold through network marketing. Unfortunately, most people joining a network marketing program for the first time don't read the books first. Even if they did, they would get a message that is really hard to grasp for someone used to the standard sales techniques of the modern world.

If you are new to network marketing, a great book to read is "Masters Of Networking" by Ivan R. Misner, Ph.D., and Don Morgan, M.A. While it does contain instructions on how and where to network, I believe that part of its value lies in what it doesn't always say out loud, but hints at in the subtitle: Building Relationships For Your Pocketbook And Soul. So what does that have to do with selecting the product that you will attempt to "sell" through network marketing?

The book I just mentioned gets a lot of its message across through the stories of people who have passed through the stages of learning to network. In keeping with that, I am going to talk about my favorite subject...myself. In 1996 I was introduced to my first network marketing venture. Never mind what it was, but I will say that it was a valuable product and I felt good being associated with it.

I honestly felt that it was a service that many people could use and that by purchasing this service they could get better service in certain health related areas and they could possibly save large sums of money. In other words, I BELIEVED! I also believed that I could make a lot of money. After all, I saw other people doing it, and being a product of 20th century marketing practices, I began doing what I thought I was supposed to be doing. I placed ads, I handed out flyers, left business cards laying around, and mailed out a lot of brochures. After a few months, I was making some money, but it sure seemed a hard way to make a living!

In the meantime, people I knew were making larger and larger sums from the same product, and with a fraction of the time, effort, and money. So I did the next logical thing...I dropped out and spent a couple of years licking my wounds, nursing a grudge, and generally being a chump. The one thing I didn't do was ask for help or study the subject of network marketing. However, I DID keep signing up for program after program, with the same predictable results.

Finally, I broke down and did the unthinkable...I did some research! What did I learn?

I learned that some of the best "sales" people and some of the best network marketers had the same thing to say. Their opinion was to quit concentrating on sales and concentrate on building a network of people who respected you. They did not necessarily mean "respected" in the sense of someone who was an expert or who stood head and shoulders above the rest. What they meant was that you should be someone who is willing to listen, to help, to guide, to support...to be a genuine friend and someone who could be counted on. I started thinking about the people I had known who were successful.

Not a one was a "sales" person. They were housewives, retirees, ex-teachers, bus drivers, fast food workers, garbage collectors...but most had three things in common. They believed in the product and the company, they knew the important points of the product and the opportunity, and they were genuinely interested in and involved with those they sold to or recruited. As it happened, at about the time I was doing this research, I actually had a JOB teaching newcomers to an industry how to become successful in that field. It felt great. I got to take people and help bring them to a point where they were going to be in a position to have a new career and make lots of money. I didn't have to "sell" them anything. I provided solid information, guidance, advice based on experience, and sometimes a shoulder to cry on.

I noticed one interesting thing. They hung on my every word. If I said a certain item was important to have, within 48 hours at least half of my students would have that item if they didn't have it already. By the way, one common benefit of the job I am speaking of and a network marketer is the gratitude of the people that have come into the business and been successful thanks at least in part to the interest and support you have shown them. I saw this happen again and again, and not just with me, but with others who were providing this instruction as well.

Okay, I'm slow, but not fatally so. I realized that if I could place myself in a similar position in a network marketing endeavor, I might have similar results. I then began to apply my newfound knowledge to network marketing, and, after a couple of false starts and the occasional retraining session, I found out that the technique works!

Start with a good strong product from a reliable company. Make sure you understand what the heck you are talking about, arm yourself with order pads and pencils, and then get out there and start being NICE! I know it's going to be difficult, but you will have to buckle down and be a benefit to society and let people like you. I guess you've figured out that in the network marketing world, YOU are the best product to sell.

One of the most confusing and frustrating challenges you may face with your online business is getting good search engine rankings. It took me a good two years to get my website to the top rankings on Google. I spent countless nights (and days) trying to optimize for my favorite search engine. 1) Write Articles. By writing and submitting articles in your related field of expertise, you create relevant links and free advertising. The resource area of article submissions allows you to usually post a brief bio of yourself and a link to your website. Of course, the search engines love relevant links to your site. Write as many articles as you can. Some suggested submissions websites are www.goarticles.com, www.findarticles.com and www.articletrader.com.

2) Add content to your website daily. Don’t let your website become stagnant. The search engines love new content, and will penalize you if they see your site is not active. You can add a new article every week, place new relevant links or change your text content.

3) Use a search engine optimization tool. Two good choices are www.rankquest.com or http://www.axandra-web-site-promotion-software-tool.com/download.htm (IBP). Monitor your website on a regular basis.

4) Post on Forums. Find a forum that is relevant to your website and begin posting there. You can add your website URL to end of your postings creating links to your website. This is also a good place to find link partners.

5) Add quality and relevant links. It is important to remember here though quality is more important than quantity. Search engines will take more seriously websites that have linked to 10 relevant links than to 100 low ranking links or links not related to your product or service. Be sure that when you link, you use proper link text. This text should be related to your website. In other words, if your website is about dance classes, be sure that your link anchor text uses those words.

6) Link to various directories like DMOZ.org, webworldindex.com and buzzle.com.

7) Be patient! Rankings do not come overnight. It will take time, but one fine morning you will wake up to see that all of your effort has paid off. To your personal and financial success!

I remember closely watching the faces of my family and relatives as I told them I was going into a business of my own. On the outside, they tried to appear supportive, but it was obvious from watching and listening to their comments that they wanted me working at a JOB. They told me that I had their support, but they never purchased any products I offered or offered to help in any way. They lived in the JOB mode. Well meaning or not, they wanted to kill my dreams.

I guarded myself carefully from any friends or family members who subtly said I should just stick with a JOB. Some friends told me I was being used. Some said entrepreneurship was just for rich people. Some said most businesses fail. Some said it takes too long to make money. Some said it costs too much.

I never listened to them.....nor should you. Guard your attitude carefully. It is your major weapon against failure. Associate with well meaning people whom will be your mentors. Follow in the footsteps of those who have acquired what you want.... and you will succeed. Don’t give up or give in. Persistence and patience will pay off in the long run. Your alternative? An 8-hour a day, 5 day a week JOB.... for many years to come.

Multi-Level Marketing. Is It An Extension Of Franchising?

Ray Kroc, founder of McDonald’s Corp., did not set out to sell Big Macs. His introduction to hamburgers came in the early 1950’s while he was peddling milk shake machines.

A San Bernadino restaurant run by two brothers, Dick and Maurice "Mac" McDonald were using a number of the machines to keep up with the huge demand for milkshakes. It was here that Kroc saw a golden opportunity for lot’s of milkshake machine orders if only they had more restaurants! Kroc offered to open and run the restaurants, and in 1955 opened the first McDonald’s in Des Plaines, IL. He bought out the McDonalds brothers for $2.7 million in 1961.

Ray Kroc understood one important fact about business that most of us simply miss. You will make far more money by "duplicating" your efforts over and over again in a mutually beneficial way, than by trying to run a business all by yourself. Ray went out of his way to find qualified individuals to run and manage his restaurants, and after training them all at "Hamburger University", took a small profit from each restaurant. This "duplication" allowed McDonald’s to enjoy exponential growth over the years.

There are now over 24,500 McDonald’s restaurants in 115 countries around the world! In today’s world, Ray Kroc might be looked upon as an early MLM’er. He recruited owners and managers to run his businesses, he provided them with a product, he trained them to "duplicate" his efforts (through the use of ‘Hamburger University"), and he took a small percentage of the profits from each restaurant. If they did not succeed, he did not succeed. No McDonald’s restaurant has ever failed. (A tribute to the exceptional support system Ray Kroc implemented)

Unlike MLM’s, however, the recruiting aspect of the McDonald’s business was reserved strictly for Ray Kroc. Restaurant owners were not allowed to franchise themselves. If they had been allowed to franchise themselves, the McDonald’s Corporation would be much larger than it is today because of the faster exponential growth.

In the MLM business, this faster growth can be achieved because each and every business owner in the network can franchise themselves. This is the "extension" if you will, of franchising.

You will most likely excel at it. If you enjoy your work immensely, then chances are high that somewhere down the line, you will earn a good amount of money in that field. Take special notice of your particular talents and skills. How can you leverage what you have to produce something that others want?

An internet home business can be a significant source of income, so you should not neglect it. Just remember to do the requisite mental legwork before you get started. The Misconception Of Multi-Level Marketing

Ever wonder why people are so turned off at the mention of Multi-Level Marketing? Is it legal? Is it a pyramid? Who benefits the most? Where does the money flow? In this article we will examine basic differences between Multi-Level Marketing and a Corporate Structure.

Let's take the corporate structure first. Almost all of us work in this type of structure everyday. The corporation or company is headed by a CEO. Below him/her are upper management people i.e. Vice President, Controller, Senior Sales Exec...etc. Below them are middle management people i.e. Department Heads, Retail Directors, Consultants and various Supervisors.

Finally we reach the Sales Representatives, Customer Service Representatives, Stockers, Cashiers, Cleaners, Drivers, etc.

So who makes the most money in this type of structure? If you were flow chart this all out, it would look like a "Pyramid" The CEO makes the most money, then a few upper management, then more middle management, then most workers. It is the person at the "top" of this "pyramid" that makes the most money, because in this type of structure, you are paid based on "where you are" in the structure. The only ways you increase your earnings are if someone in the structure gets fired, dies, or quits. As a result, everyone in the structure can move up.

So....lets take a look at a Network Marketing Structure and compare. On the surface, both structures are mirror images of each other. BOTH look like a "Pyramid" structure. Flowchart it out. An affiliate sponsors someone, they sponsor more, they sponsor more...etc. But.....who makes the money here? The guy at the top? Possibly, but most likely not. Here's why:

Even though this structure looks identical to a corporate structure pyramid, in this structure you get paid STRICTLY on what you do, not on where you are within the structure. Wouldn't it seem fair that if you do more work, you should get paid more money? This structure is simply a structure of business owners. Pay is based ONLY on what you do, not your position within the network. This is what differs Network Marketing from a typical "Corporate Structure Job".

Here, only YOU are in control of your income. With a job, someone else is in control of your income. Always.
